Neutral Starting Problem?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My CRF250R absolutely will *not* start unless it is in neutral, a condition I also read in one of the magazine reviews.

Do any other CRF250R owners have this problem or know what causes it? I can bump start just fine, but the kickstarter is futile in any gear.

it will start in gear, you just need to kick it alot harder. when its in gear, with the clutch in, everything is tight. Try to push your bike while its in gear, kinda hard to do, same thing with starting it while its in gear.

Try to kick it harder. I noticed on mine it wants a long, firm kicker when in gear to start. Are your plates dragging maybe??

Thanks for the idea - When I get it back from the shop (getting new black Excels mounted), I'll try kicking harder. I've owned two other 4-strokes (and XR400 and KTM 400SX) and never noticed any difference between starting in gear and starting in neutral, and they were a lot harder to start than the CRF. My hunch is that I'm kicking plenty hard enough, but something else may be wrong.
