i purchased a 1988 kdx 200 this past year, and i love it. but after the tight trail riding and constent braking and everything i would love to have a newer model with the luqiuod cooling and rear disc. would it be worth it to sell my bike for a newer one?

Well, here is my thought. I have an 88 and probably will keep it until I cant get parts anymore. I had an 86 from 87 until 95, I have owned the 88 since. I am very familar with the bike and not much can go wrong that I cant fix myself. It is in good shape but if it gets a scratch or small ding it is no big deal. Not like if I had a new one. If mechanical problems are bothering you maybe park it and fix things that are wrong, do preventive maintenance. I have found the c models to be dependable when taken care of. The trade in value of your 86 is about like my 88. 4 to 6 hundred dollars. I have spent that on mine in the last 3 months. I guess it would be nice to have a new KDX and be able to ride without working on the bike, but making payments on something that is going to depreciate very fast doenst sound so good

You say you spent $600-$800 over the past 3 months? I bought a '97 kdx 200 a few months ago for $1600 in great condition. Instead of spending all the money, you can have a much newer bike if you sell.

I had a 87 for a few years. Great bike, but the 95's and newer will likely get you having even more fun. They make 'zippier' power, are narrower-and make it more natural to stand and ride. ( a good thing )

I say gp for the newer version. I bought a little used 2000 a couple years ago and have ridden it alot in the desert with nothing to take care of except chain lube and air cleaning. Spent like 2400 and could get a good piece of that back. If you want bigger I'll sell you a great KX500 .
