I am looking to buy a new bike in the near future, but there are so many choices. I currently have a 1993 KTM 300 MXC. I am going to keep that bike, but I want a new 250 or 450. I've never ridden a thumper so I would hate to spend all of that money and not like it. I love the snap of my 2 stroke, should I try something new? I don't race I just ride for fun about 50/50 trails, and mx.

I think you would love a CRF450. Its got plenty of oomph to get you where you are going. Plus for trails it will beat a 250 mxer any day.

I don't know about that, rye bread. There must be some reason why many(most) of the best offroad riders ride two-strokes. Lafferty traded in his 450 for a two-stroke this year too.

Feild ripper,
I always rode two-strokes, but switched to a four-stroke about 3yrs. ago. A year and a half ago, I switched back to a two-stroke. The thumper just wasn't for me. But you might like them. I definitely think you should try one. Your best bet is to see if you can borrow a 450 and try it out. And if you like it, buy it. And if you don't, get a 250. You really can't lose either way since there are so many good bikes to choose from. Good luck.

CJG gives sound advice from beginning to end. I usually ride/race 2 strokes, tried a KTM 400 SX and now I'm back to a 2 stroke. The 400 SX was a bad choice however the point is you won't know until you try.

Personally, I'm ready to try a 4 stroke again and will post my question.
