Ditch it or trim it?

Hey everyone. I was just wondering your opinions on airbox modifications. I don't know whether I should just cut the top (upper) portion where the snorkle is and make it bigger or to just discard the whole lid. I have read threads on this and everyone seems to do something different. Is there advantages to one or the other? What is the likelyhood of actually getting water and gunk in the engine if I take the entire box off? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

If it was me I'd just remove the lid and save it, that way if you get tired of hearing that loud honking noise, as I did, you can put it back on.
I added 8 Uni airfilter vents to mine http://dirtrider.net/forums3/attach...tachmentid=4909
I did not notice any power loss putting it back on, and my air filter stays so much cleaner!

I'm a get-rid-of-weight freak so I junked my lid. I've never gotten water in my air box w/o the lid but I ride in a dry climate and don't seek out getting drenched. I take it easy crossing streams, etc.

Ditch the lid (tuck it away somewhere) and put some fine mesh or panty hose over the top.
(or something like that)

a while a go i went throught a small river that was over the front mud guard. and it tried to die so i reved it a bit and it kept going. when i got home the air box was full of muddy stuff. and the air filter was wet.
