What is the name of this Old Movie?? Help!

This has been bugging me for a while now. I remember a move I saw sometime in the early to mid 70’s that I cannot remember the name of. This is just a description of what I remember and I just wanted to know if any of you remember it and possibly the name of the movie.

This is just a stab in the dark. I don’t even remember if it was a good movie or who was in it. The movie is about how the wacko environmentalists succeed in getting every car and internal combustion engine off the road, which leaves everybody walking, or bicycling wherever they need to go. The main character meets up with an old racecar driver who has a Can-am type car stashed under the floor of his barn. Even though there is no gas anywhere because it is now illegal, the driver knows that the tanks at the old racetrack still have some fuel still in the bottom of the tanks he can siphon out. The end of the movie has him (or the kid) driving the car down a stretch of highway with people walking all on the road.

It is the future. Evil fascists have forced everyone to recycle and drive electric cars, and have oppressed all those poor people who want to drive Ferraris and smoke cigarettes. Hero Lee Majors, an ex-racing car driver, decides to make a statement by pulling out his old race car and driving cross-country at 150 mph (he siphons gas from old gas station pumps). Taking along a young reform school geek in a vaguely homosexual subplot, he drives for the Holy Land the Free State of California! Of course, the Powers That Be try to eliminate him by hiring Burgess Meredith to shoot him down with a fighter jet, which, too, are virtually extinct.

The title is The Last Chase, starring Lee Majors.

i don't advise watching it again. i've made that mistake with a few movies myself and it ruined the memories.
