This is cool- National track lengths!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

somebody put this up on another site, the info came from www.mxnationals.com

here are the lengths of the National circuits- Glen Helen is the longest at 2.25 miles- wow!

rnd 1 Hangtown- 1.4miles
rnd2 Highpoint- 1 mile
rnd3 Southwick- 1.5
rnd4 Budds- 1.4
rnd5 Red Bud- 1.75
rnd6 Unadilla- 1.5
rnd7 Kenworthys- 1.6
rnd8 Washougal- 1.4
rnd9 Millville- 1.2
rnd10 Broome-Tioga- 1.5
rnd11 Steel City- 1
rnd12 GH- 2.25

Wow I am really surprised to see High Point and Steel City at 1.0 miles (unless they are just rounded to 1 mile versus 2 miles). I've raced both over national weekend, and they seem just as long as Red Bud (which is listed at 1.75 miles), especially given the fact that both High Point and Steel City add in an extra section for the pro national (a little woods loop at High Point and a grass loop with a huge double at Steel City). At 2.25, Glen Helen sounds like a monster!

Now let's see average winner lap times.... and compare to find out which are the fast tracks and which are more technical!

rnd12 GH- 2.25; 2.55, 3.00

there you go Nikki- the faster times are for the 250 class of course.

it would be interesting to see what the average speeds are- it would also be interesting to see if we could compare these numbers to the European GP tracks- i remember marcus telling me Smets was clocked at 65mph in one race last year!!!

You've got the distance and the time, you can figure the average speed no?

Kenworthy's at 43mph? That's probably the most SX style track on the circuit... doesn't seem right?

Either way, AVERAGING 40+ MPH is crazy fast.

2mph diff (250's vs 125) at Washogal and Southwick... makes perfect sense. Big hills, deep sand.

It wouldn't surprise me if they don't hit those speeds on the Tellidaga at Glen Helen

Posted by: ScottS---------------------

average speed might be useful for gearing selection - I bet the big teams have this all scoped out by now-

Taledega is said to be 5th pinned in the bubba class, that approaching 70MPH.

Posted by: ScottS---------------------

That's fast !

Those numbers come from the Track Facts section of www.mxnationals.com. There is also some other stuff, like average attendance and when the track was founded, plus links to the track's webpage.

Click on the Series Schedule button for tracks other than this week's. If the race has already been run, you have to scroll to the bottom of the race recap for the info.

I looked up the race results for the '03 Baja 1000. Winner Steve Hengevel rode 811 miles in 15 hours,39 min., that's 51.77mph avg. over 800 miles!
I can hardly hang on for one moto, much less 15 hours!
I'm not comparing apples to oranges here, just interesting
