June 10, 2004 An open letter from Matt Bigos 12 Months and counting for me. For those of you that don't remember who I am or what happened to me, here's a little refresher. My name is Matt Bigos and I was injured last year in a car accident with Travis Pastrana. I was initially paralyzed from the chest down, which was a result of a significant bruise to my spinal cord. I have been making what my doctors and therapists call amazing progress over the last 12 months. From what I have learned about the injury that I have I should be happy that I am just able to walk on my own, but to be honest I don't care and that simply isn't good enough for me. I have no intentions of slowing down on my therapy program or my research until I am fully recovered. My walking has been greatly improving over the last few months, which has led me to believe that I might hopefully be able to get back on a bike within the next two months or so. I still have some problems with feeling in my legs and feet, but it is still coming back. Hopefully in time everything will heal. For now, I am going to try and go to as many nationals as I can this summer and try and find a job working in the industry for next season. (Any leads on a job mattbigos@earthlink.net). I would like to thank all the new friends that I have made over the last year that helped me go through this ordeal and the old ones that stood by me as well. And to my "friends" that left me when I got hurt, don't bother calling me ever again. A big thanks to my parents and the Barker family for helping me more than anyone should ever be asked to do. Last I would like to thank all of my sponsors that have stood by me through this Pro Circuit, Thousand Oaks Yamaha, Dunlop, Creative Crafix, Hinson, Innovation Sports |
