front shock problem

whats up yall, just curious about front shock problem. I was riding up a hill the other day when i hit a pretty good sized rock and heard a pop from the front end, after that no shocks on the front, could this be the fork seal? if so is this something a beginner at bike maintenence such as myself should try and tackle
