If you drain the coolant and remove this cover you can remove the shaft and replace the seals (water and oil seals) quite easily if needed, and the seals are cheap. You should also check the bearing too - you will have to remove it anyway. I did the whole water pump on a cr250 a while back. The only costly part was the shaft itself.
