Howdy all!

Yes, we know interest is down this year due to conflicting plans and the "I got burned last year due to the dang snow..!" feelings from last year.

But it has rained almost 11" in January *alone* here in Portland this month. And I just checked the weather in Reno -- and tomorrow is 58 degrees and sunny!

That's it... we're going :ride: in Reno! :yeehaw:

Decided to start a new thread on "who's actually confirmed and will be showing up"....

Since the PepperMill Casino bull-dozed down their MotorLodge -- got a tip from Mr. Strick about checking out the Atlantis.

Atlantis Casino Resort • Spa
3800 S. Virginia Street
Reno, Nevada 89502
(800) 723-6500 or (775) 825-4700

RandyB (E-Ticket) and SusanP (The Ant) have just booked their room at the Atlantis Motor Lodge.

Current plan is to arrive on Thursday evening (Feb. 16).... ride Friday-Sunday .... and checkout on Monday to drive back home to Portand.

Depending on who else is going riding and our work conditions - we may drop the Friday ride day and just ride Saturday and Sunday. (Will make that call closer to the weekend.)

Hope to see you all there... but understand if you can't make it this year! But go riding where ever you're at, eh!

Cheers! - RandyB/SusanP

Well count us in. I think we will camp out friday and saturday night. Our group should have 6 adults and 4 kids. I should have an extra bike or two for others to ride. I may also have one for sale. The last time I was out the riding was great. The ones who make it to Reno this year are going to have a great time. See you all then. John

My family should be arriving thursday night with more friends coming friday, our group should be about 24-28 people including kids. Look for the Toy Hauler with "Blue Ribbon Coallition" and "Calif Enduro Riders Association" decals on the sides.

Woo-hoo! Numbers are starting to climb! :yeehaw:

I'll let them chime in later with their specifics -- but Buddy and Mini are planning on coming w/ their sprouts --- and will be camping out at MoonRocks as well.

Cheers! - RandyB

valentine's day ride

Wife and I will be there and we will be camping. Her brother and wife are planning to camp also. :ride:
A note for people thinking about the Peppermill, we stayed there last Wed - Fri and the motorlodge was stiil standing as of checkout time so maybe a phone call to confirm yey/ney would be good.
The slots were really tight so they should have funding for the upgrades (covered parking and a new 600 rm tower to be done by 2008). :|

the weatherman sucks!

:bang: well... if the weather people come anywhere near getting this weekend's report correct, it is going to be colder than a well digger's :moon: ! Snow level possibly down to 2500' even in the SF/Bay Area hills. Weekend highs predicted in the 30s but windchill will make it feel as though in the teens. :yikes: We are waiting until the last minute to whimp out but it doesn't look good... again :| . Lets just hope that they are as correct as usual.

might not be an option for the norcal guys like retsenior and unklemoose, but why don't you guys make plans to go somewhere like vegas next time? compared to reno, there's quite a bit more trailriding w/in 45 minutes of town, and it's almost guaranteed to be non-snowy. i raced 2 out of the last 3 weekends down there, and it was in the 60's and low 70's during the day (at 3000' or so).

fwiw, i hope you guys have ok weather, but i'm still pulling for some snow. the skiing here in ely is getting thin, and riding season is still at least 6-8 weeks away.

You all should have ridden with the angry's this past weekend. Low 60's with a little breeze to blow away the minimal dust. We rode high enough to be turned back by snow and halfway to Reno in the other direction. There were very few riders out. Have fun people.

Yah, timing is everything isn't it.... :(

We're now going to have to cancel on the Moon Rocks ride again this year. Man, we are so bummed up here….

They’re predicting a high of 28 degrees and snow showers up here in Portland, OR this weekend. While they don’t expect much snow – it is just going to be just artic around here for a while. Which isn’t too bad in itself – but the forecasts for our driving route through Klamath Falls and on look pretty iffy.

That and the Reno forecast is for snow showers and upper 30’s for the highs for the weekend helped seal the decision. "..Wa-a-a-a-hhh….."

So it looks like we’re going to play conservative, save our vacation days, and try to hit some better weather.

BTW, Susan and I are still thinking about coming ourselves and riding MoonRocks a little later in the spring when it’s better weather – so we may get a chance to hook up with you guys yet!

Cheers! - RandyB / SP

As a final confirmation -- got this email from Strick this morning:

=========

I woke up to 4” of snow, and it is currently 16 degrees. Snow is predicted here for the next 4 to 5 days, so you made the right choice.

==========

So yah, passing on this weekend's ride was appropriate, eh!

Have a good ride, wherever you may be this weekend.

Cheers! - RandyB

why Jawbone?

In my opion the best riding is around Randsburg (15 miles east of Jawbone). Camping is nice in the Spangler Hills area. 58,000 acres of open riding. Tons of single track, Hills, Go where you want, Nice 40 mile loop from Charlies Place (off Trona Rd about 3 miles north of the intersection of Trona and Searless Station). There is great beginner, intermediate and advance riding. I always take people to the Sand Hills area off Trona Rd and over some closed trails that offer some awsome single track between Trona Rd and 395. There is a great mine to play around too. The hills behind Randsburg are very fun. Mostly rocky. Fun climbs to some challenging climbs. Lots of semi trials type riding at the top. Fun ledges to go off.

Yes, you can get there from Jawbone. By offroad you would go over 14 and through the El Paso Mtns. By the way there is some great no no trails in the El Paso Mtns. I had some locals a few years ago show me around. Very nice single track. Intermediate ability.

There is a map called "Friends of Jawbone Cyn". You can buy in Randsburg for $3.00. By the way Randsburg allows off road vehicles to ride on their paved roads. It is illegal but everyone does it. On busy weekends the cops hang out. They don't ticket you unless you go wild. Kids, women, men, riding dirt bikes, rail frames, etc. Milkshakes, Hamburgers, beer, etc. The loop from Jawbone would be around 50 miles by the El Paso Mtns.

I may come.
