My bike pings in the mid & top. I use 93 octane gas & synthetic premix 52:1. The guy I bought it from installed a pro circuit pipe and mx silencer. It has a flywheel weight too. I ride in Alabama & Georgia mostly.

So, before changing the main I want to try adjusting the needle clip. My question is can the clip be changed without pulling the whole carb off?

Yes, loosen the clamps on the carb and rotate the top towards you.

Remove the allen screws from the top, pull it out of the main carb body.

Pull the spring up away from the slide and turn it upside down to get the plastic retaining clip to come up, push the cable down and to the side and the slide and needle should come free.

All you will need then is a 6mm socket to remove the needle from the slide.

I had a friend who had a stock 99 KX and here in Oklahoma at about 900ft it ran perfectly with the clip in the second position from the top. Everything else was stock.
