19yrs 6'5 and 155 pounds. Yesterday I went and rode my buddies 05 CRF250 4stoke. It had alot of power and I liked it. I did well considering it was my first time on the track. but for some reason I am hell bent on getting a 2 stroke just casue i hear they are easier to fix and so on... Would a 250 2 stoke be to much for the average beginner rider? or should I lean towards a 125. I will be buying a used bike 2004 or newer with about $4000 to play with.

Is the 250 2 stroke too much for you? For your heigth, no. For your weight i would say its a little much. You said you were happy with the power from the 250F, then you'll love the instant power from the 125 2 smoker. Plus when you are looking to spend that amount of money, you can fine a really nice 125 with a few extras on it. hope this helped.

A 250 2 stroke will be easier to learn to ride on than a 125 because of the broader power spread. If you get the 250, just take it easy on the throttle until you get used to it.

Lots of people 150-160 pounds ride a 250 - including my brother.

Either one will work - you'll have to work harder to keep the 125 moving fast and you'll have to be careful with the extra power of the 250.

I'm 5'10", 160 and i bought my first bike 2 years ago. It is a 250, 2 stroke. I had no problem getting used to the power at all...My buddy has a cr500...now that thing is fast

You could ride a 250. But then again 4000 is a lot on for a bike that you will probably tear up. Ride a 125 before you buy it. To me a 250 is that much faster than a 125

Im gonna get a 250 2 stroke...i have made up my mind. If i were to get a older bike say somewhere around 97-01 what would be the risks there? I dont know anything about the engines on these things.

and we can handle them fine

14 y/o and getting a KX250F early next year :yeehaw: :aj: . an older 250 2T would be also be a wise choice so you can get it dialed in just for you and youll have extra $$$ to buy some good gear  .

FWIW-

I just stepped up from a Honda CRF150F to a KTM 200 XC-W 2t'er and it's way different. The 150 was a great bike but it's way underpowered. I went w/the 2stroke b/c it was the lightest (I'm 49 btw) and I don't want to wrestle with picking up the bikes anymore when I crash.

I haven't ridden it much yet due to the cold weather here in NY, but I can see it will easy to ride on the trails and will take a little getting used to on the hills and loose gravel. The rear wheel was all over the place!

I'm a trail rider, not a racer but you'll like the 2t either way.
Good luck and have fun!!!!

A 200cc class trail bike would be perfect for starting out on. Pick up a used KDX 200 or 220, hammer on it while learning all the basics and then move on from there if needed.
