250 SX Head

Hey guys, we're tearing apart the bikes and Blakes head and head frame braces are all cracked. :yell:

Anyone have a spare they want to sell?

I know guys put SX heads on XC's.... can you put a modified XC/W head on an SX or is that a dumb idea :coocoo: .... there is one on KTMTalk for 50 bucks, thats why im asking.

Grant, that has been a some what known problem, you may be able to contact KTM for a good will replacement, they were supposed to fix them. The ONLY head for the SX is the sx head.

Why do they crack? Alignment? A gap, and assembly closed it up, seemingly? Will shimming fix it? Do they have issues with head gaskets also? Pics? Vintage Bob

It is a part of the frame gusseting and those Jumper fellas put some demands on the frames and apparently the heads take a beating.

Is a cut XCW head the same as a cut SX head? if they are both modified, whats the difference?

Take the xcw head and get it cut.

NO, the XCW head has a deeper dish and larger squish area, they can machine that down a bit but not all of it so the modded XCW head will run different-less compression. It will work but will not be the same.
