I am thinking about gettting an 05 when they are out. I am mostly a motocross rider. I am a vet int that is 6-2 195lbs. I am tired of the fourstrokes. Anybody use the 300 for mx?

I guess I qualify as a Senior rider now (45) - Ouch! Anyway, I had an '01(in '03) that I used mostly for trail and desert though I used to MX so I'd take it to the track too. For my riding I thought it was pretty sweet. I was coming off a WR400 Yamaha and the lighter weight felt amazing. The power is very linear-broad and strong. If you're mostly MX you'd probably like the harder hit of the 250 better for that.

The MXC suspension is the same as the EXC's, and I've always found it too soft for the track. Maybe stiffer springs and a revalve would help if that's mostly the riding you want to do. Also, the "hit" of the 300 motor is tame compared to 250 MX'ers, but that thing can lug you out of any corner. The MXC transmission is very similar to most MX bikes, so that part of it works fine.

I'd try to get a ride on both an '04 300mxc and an '03 or '04 250sx and then decide. The '05s shouldn't feel that much different from the '04s, though the frame and swingarm will be better. Note that starting in '03 the 250/300 M/XC and E/XC motors are based on the '03 250sx design, so you'll definitely need to ride an '04 if you're thinking of an '05. Even though the newer M/XC and E/XC engines are based on the new-in-'03 SX design, carbs and ignitions are different (porting may be, too).
