Ive never owned a honda before, only kawasaki's kx's. I heard the 100's are very reliable, and i just need a your guys opinions. Ok well i found this 97 xr100r for sale on craigs list, for 250. all the plastics are in good condition, the only problem is it smokes like a chimney, the owner thinks a top end rebuild, im thinking its more along the line of the valving seats. What do you guys think it might be???

They are very reliable, the rings are shot for sure. Check that everything with the airbox is intact. If its getting air from somewhere besides whats coming through the foam filter it will cut the rings out in a hurry. Of course there could be some problems with the valves but its still not an expensive fix. Parts are cheap for the xr100 compared to the water cooled 4 stroke race bikes. 250 not a bad price if it looks good.

It will be a fun little bike. You can easily install updated plastic on it if you want. Parts and hopping it up are both cheap and easy.

I wouldn't think too long or somebody else will get it.
