Front brake locks up after 20 minutes of riding

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I have a 92 kx125 that I recently got a new top end and other work on, including a new front brake cable. I was breaking it in today and as I pulled back in after 20 minutes of 1/4 throttle the front brake was locked. It was really hard to pull the lever but it was possible. After about 5 minutes of being off the front brake is unlocked and back to normal, what's the deal?

Probably has too much fluid in the reservoir. The pads dragging cause the fluid to heat and gradually expand until it is applying the brake on its own. I would guess taking a little of the fluid out will take care of this.

I have heard that if your brake pads get extremely worn out it causes problems like this. Whether it is true or not I have not idea. I have never let them go that far.

Check the routing of your brake hose. If it is kinked this could happen from pressure being trapped between the caliper and the kink.

Make sure the brake lever is not adjusted in too tight, that will cause your problem also. You may have some crud in the master cylinder fluid rturn port, that will cause the brake to not return well also. If you did any "adjusting" to the brake, you may want to start there. :thumb:

Yes occasionally a crook aftermarket lever will not allow you to adjust any freeplay so the return will not always return enough esp when fluid etc heats up. Check there is freeplay.

Also & more likely I feel is the master cylinder breather is blocked. Pull the cap off being careful not to strip the cheese metal screws. Check the rubber is not ripped & clean it nicely.

Check the lid & clean out the crystallized crud noting the passage way for the breather hole.

Might as well change the brake fluid while you are there & pump the calliper pistons out a little & make sure they are not seized & the pins are ok.
