Starting to think this might just be a better weekend for the Jetskis. I don't think I want to put on all that gear in 100 degree heat for the bike.

I'm out. Stripped my oil drain threads somehow. They came out like a slinky. Gotta get a Time Sert kit and figure out how the F I'm gonna fix it. Looks like an engine pull, which I've never done, so I might be out for a while...

Pull the motor and bring it to a good machine shop. I would doubt that a thread repair kit would hold back oil. If there is enough material still there they can thread it for the next size larger bolt or if not tig weld it closed then drill and re-tap tap it to the original. I'm going to assume that the plug is in the case not a cover right? What ever you do after the repair make sure to flush out any metal left behind by leaving the plug out and puring plenty of oil through the fill. Good luck with it and if you want you can bring it here and i will do it for you.

To Dam hot. My bike is still broken also. To dam hot to work on it. Andrew I can help you with the motor pull if you want shouldn't take more than 30 mins if we do it here with the air tools. I would think if you drained the oil out and tossed it on the side, cleaned the hole out real well with eather you could get an insert in there. Flush it out with some diesel if you think there are any shavings in there.

Well there were a few threads left, so after 2 hours of researching and running around to various auto parts stores looking for a self-tapping plug, I decided to red lock-tite the bolt and tighten it up. Gonna let it set and put new oil in tomorrow and just ride til the winter. Then I'll probably rip everything down, do the time sert, send my suspension out, and lube everything all while it's broken down and I won't be out any riding time...

Lock-tite works ok as long as the surfaces are CLEAN as in no oil and you have some threads left. Be advised to the color code of the Lock-tite, I would use yellow or red on this issue. It's hard to trust that on a dirt bike drain screw since it needs to be a heat/ water tight seal and as a wack to the bottom of the bike can cause a failure and there is less than 2 qrt's of oil on that motor. I would advise tapping the hole out the the next fine thread size. That's a nice new bike, no reason to wipe it out over a $60 tap and die kit / bolt ( if you buy the tap kit). Those drain plug bolts are a fine thread in a very shallow hole. Many o people have striped them out. Best advise is to HAND tighten the bolt until you SEE the washer get tight. I know its hard since the bolt is in a recessed hole but I just use the socket with the extension in my hand to thread it in. I think the torque on that bolt is like 36 INCH lbs. Meaning about 1/4 - 3/8 turn past hand tight with a 1/4" ratchet. If your using a 3/8" ratchet hold the head in your palm (I know your good at that!) and watch for that 1/4 to 3/8 turn so you don't over tweek it. Remember, you can always make it tighter if it leaks! You can not un strip the threads.

Looks like I should be able to get out this weekend and I'm thinking the old Hazelton area. Parking at 8'bees and riding in from there. I know Matt, Dave, Brad, Dru, want to go who else is in? Jason I can bring a bike for you so no excuses there bud.

Just checked weather and it looks like a glorious day for a ride. Jason call me and let me know if you want to come and if you need a bike to ride.

10am ready to ride 8 bee's lower parking lot all the way in the back.

Yeah nothing real important, just a skid plate for riding in the rockiest terain we know of. Really sucked to do 5 hours worth of driving with no riding. Hope I don't ever make that mistake again.

Andrew how's the knee?

I think we have all been there in some way or another. I was once getting a ride to Hazelton to ride with another guy when 3/4 of the way up he "remembered" he forgot his key to his quad and was not willing to drop me off to ride while he went back (I said quad). I asked him to give me 10 minutes to hot wire it and I got it running in 6 minutes. One of the few times I have used my good powers to do "bad" things for the right reason.
That sucks man. All joke's aside. but

Just heard this will be Steve's first ride since the knee injury. Right now they are saying 30% chance of thunderstorms for Sat. but that's sort of how it goes this time of year so I'll take thise odds.

RMguy you up for this one since it's in your backyard? Come join us Saturday morning we'll probably be the last ones out of the gate. I'm not rushing to get up there and passing everyone can be half the fun, besides you don't need to watch the route sheet just follow the ruts.

Naw I can't make it. I rode there in April though and had a blast. They have a nice trail system set up.

No meniscus or ligament tears... the spider web stuff that goes around the knee cap and attaches to those ligaments and stuff is torn though. 8-10 weeks of PT to build it back together. Talking with a knee specialist on Tuesday to see what he thinks based on the MRI and my profession, but thinking it's gonna stay with just PT for now.
