Currently I have 14/52 on my bike (stock is 14/50), I was wondering if there is a problem with using 13/48. I'm going to try to get 14/52, but if not, i'll try 13/48. Thanks for any replies.
Yes, smaller sprocket = increased chain wear. The pressure per link goes up due to the smaller countershaft sprocket. Also, the affect of chain tq on suspension action will increase with a smaller countershaft sprocket (as will swingarm slider wear).
The benifits of smaller sprockets are, marginally less weight/rotating mass (due to shorter chain and smaller sprockets) and increased clearance for the rear sprocket (not a factor unless you are riding really rocky enduros)
IMHO you would be better off with the larger sprockets. The difference in chain tq can be noticable on some bikes. The larger sprocket will help the suspension better absorb bumps while accelerating.
13/48 gearing is pretty good, in fact it was standard on some models. I went a 12/46, which is almost a 13/52. I think a 14 on the front is too high, unless you're desert racing or something.
EDIT
OK, just realised you're on a 250 ! Obviously, I was thinking of gearing for a 200 :bang:
