I am sure this has been talked about before but the search came up empty. anyway I am rebuilding my RMX 250 and I have heard on here that putting a thinner base gasket on it will raise the compression slightly and give it more botton end.Is this right or do I have it backwards, also can the same be done to the head gasket of motorcycles that dont use o-rings. thanks for any info....

Yes, you can get a thinner base gasket it's made by Cometic and it's the "High Performance" gasket. It lowers your port timing a bit and raises your compression a bit. Most people who try it like it. Some manufacturers do sell thinner head gaskets but I really wouldn't mess with it unless you know what you're doing, it can result in unwanted powerband changes.
