blown head gasket

i found my head gasket was leaking (cr250) this weekend from the left side of the head only...I yanked of the head and will be replacing the gasket when it arries tomorrow, but opon inspection I only saw two very small wear marks on the gasket (graphite). It there any other tell tale signs it is only the gasket and not a warped head. I did a complte rebuild a month ago, this was the first sign of trouble since then. so its doubtful that the head had come lose (but maybe)....

lay the head on a level surface(like a plate of stainless or something that is definitly level, then see if you can see light through the head where it is seating, try using a feeler auge to see if there is actually any warpage
