How good would a KTM 144 kit really be?

OK, here is a dilemma. I have an 02 CR250 w/ all the goodies and after years of 125's, I knew if I went back to the 250, getting the $hit beat out of me riding it would be a problem. And to make matters worse, I had EG do the mo better motor package and it rips! This is a good thing, but the problem still remains, I don't get to ride/race that often so when I do go, I tend to try to make up for lost time and skills, so I really push it. Most of the time it is ok, but then when I get tired, bad things happen. Granted, I would get tired and beat up on either bike, but w/ the 250, if I get out of shape, it goes bad very quickly. So, I'm thinking of doing a 03 125sx w/ the EG 144 kit, so I can do the Vet class and ride w/ the kids and be a little more in control. Is a 144 KTM kit a winner? Any opinions?

200s are very hard to find, the 144 kit is very fast-im not conviced you will get into less trouble than on a 250CR.Most good 144kits have 38hp at the rear wheel-the KTM maybe 39-40-thats as much as most slower 250s.And it weighs less than most 250s.

The 200sx is a good bike, but there are none around at all. Plus it is $5700, which is the price for a 250. Not that it is out of the quesiton, but I can't find one anyway. I hear ya Marcus, I have gotten squirly a few times on my 02 CR125, I but a managed to pull out OK. I talked to Factory Connection today, they said they could get the bike to work just fine as far as susp goes. Dream bike is the 144 w/ V-force, good pipe/silncer, w/ wolf CDI. I would think that this would be able to get a decent start against 250/450's.

The EG 133 KTM125sx i had would easily hold its own against the 98KX250 my friend owned. However do remember as the piston size goes up so do the vibes-the 144 kit i rode vibed a fair amount-the 133 was smoother.

Jman I would think the suspension would be of most concern. and the grabby and squeely rear brake. The motor stock is like a 133 already compared to the other 125's. I would go with a good pipe first and then work on the suspension and handling. If you can't get that right then what good is a more powerful motor?

You guys are right, I think agitt73 was refering to the exc, not the sx, which there are none around. I called FC to make sure they could get it to work, (I am sposnsored by them), so the last thing I wanted was a fast bike, that didn't handle. They assured me they could make it handle perfectly. A guy near me is selling one,(03 125sx) used for $4500. I am thinking about it, but maybe for a bit less $$$. Steve, if I get the susp issue out of the way, do you think bone stock,(motor), it would fair OK? Or if I was to do the bigger bore, the 133cc KTM is comparable to other 144cc kits? Is the KTM really that powerful bone stock? Thanks for your input-

Jman i havent ridden an 03 yet but from all ive read it's a strong motor for sure. Id say it's a safe bet that an 133 KTM is right there with the other 144's.
