Hi, In light of the fact that i cannot find a kx500 86/ 87 piston kit now (85 & 88-04 are different) I am looking to either find a used piston (not so worn as mine) or trying to find another way.

Is there a similar piston that i could adapt or can the plated bore be bored out and use a different psiton from something else with the plated rings (steel bore/ plated rings as opposed to plated bore/steel rings)?

can anyone help in any way, it is now really hard to start and i'd hate this beast to go to waste.

You could call Wiseco Pistons , they have the dimensions on all of the pistons and may be able to suggest an alternative. 1-800-321-1364. Also, if it requires boring/plating or sleeving they can do it.

Kawasaki shows 13001-1226 as a good number for a 1986 kx500. If thats the part# your looking for. Price $83.55 Looked it up online from from a dealer that I buy from would have to call and confirm.

On several older bikes you sometimes have the option of running one or two rings. One ring is generally preferred for serious high rpm racing, but two is often preferred for general riding and longevity. But I'm not familiar with your bike and piston.
