I just bought a '03 KDX 200, and I think the factory recommends 32:1 premix. I talked to a friend about it who has a '03 KX250 and he said he and most of the folks he rides with use 40:1 pre mix. Then I look on J. Fredette's sight and he is recommending Golden Spectro at 50:1.
Sooo, what is the general consesus here. I sure as heck don't want to seize the engine.

Stick with the factory recommendation.
Sure can't argue with that.

Until you become VERY familiar with your two-stroke engine and how it runs, I would refrain from taking friend's advice that does not agree with the factory's.
Although, in all honesty, there isn't much difference between 32:1 and 40:1...like, what, about eight-tenths of an ounce per gallon of gasoline?

You are probably safe, 99% of the time, running 40:1 (but for what, to save a few pennies on pre-mix oil?)...however, you'll be safe 100% of the time running 32:1.
Run 32:1 for the first year or so on your bike. After that, if there is a very good reason to experiment with other ratios, you can do so with more confidence.

I use a 32:1 mix in my KDX. Jet accordingly and your just lubing your bottom end better.
I used 40:1 in my YZ250, but smaller motors seem to require more oil. Dunno the science behind it, but do know "better safe than sorry".

Golden Spectro Concentrate at 64:1. Been using this on varoius KDX's since 1983 with no problems. Of course...YMMV.

edit---> This is with a tank of 110 race gas at the start and 93 on the road.

Most your synthetics recomend 50:1 because its a better oil. I personally will be running around 40:1 in my CR just because its in between.

I run my KDX220R at 40 to 1 using Putoline MX7.
You can actually make a bike run weak by adding to much 2 stroke oil. Cant remember why, My Dad told me all about it many years ago. Still, 40 to 1 works ok for my bike :)
