If the rod slides left and right but not up and down is it ok or should it be replace? Also how much play is allowed for the piston on a dirt bike. Im not sure if its ok to still run my bike because the piston move alittle? When putting the jug back on is it ok to put oil on the piston and on the crank shaft, or is it a bad idea? I've heard both ways so i need a third opinion. Thanks

-You need some side to side play for normal operation. Your service manual will have the specs. Typical two stroke rod side clearance is around .018 inch depending on the year and model.-

-Your manual will also have piston to cylinder clearance specs. Again, typically around .002-.003 inch depending on year and model.-

-Yes, it is a good idea to use some two cycle oil as an assembly lube when assembling your motor. Would you really want to install dry parts?-

The manual will give you all the specs on piston clearance and rod play.

I use Marvel Mystery Oil for assembly lube. You should also dump about a tablespoon of pre-mix oil in the crankcase.
