I'm making this thread because I'm tired of scratching through my UNCLES garage to look for tools I need, and having to borrow friends lube, etc.

What is a general list of tools that you most likely use, and other items such as lube, oil, etc.

6-22, 24, 25, 26, 28, 30, 32 sockets and wrenches. That'll cover everything from your small hose clamps to the triple clamp nut and the various axle nuts for different bikes.

1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 ratchets, extensions and adapters

Full set of metric allen/hex wrenches.

Set of phillips, regular and torx screwdrivers.

Feeler gauge

Torque wrench

Pliers, needle nose pliers, diagonal cutters, vice grips, snap ring pliers

Mallet with soft rubber end and a hard plastic end

Try to find a set at Sears that has most of this stuff in it and you'll end up paying close to $1/tool excluding the torque wrench.

Fun stuff to get:

Safety wire pliers, exhaust spring puller, fork seal driver, fork oil syringe, chain breaker

Pliers pliers pliers.

All kinds. You can never have enough. Long ones, needle nose, bent needle nose, dikes, duckbills, whatever. Snap-on and Mac seem to have a special on sets a couple times a year.

Hit the local swap meet and buy a few pairs of hemostats too, a variety of sizes. They usually run a buck, buck and a half, two bucks.

They are nice for reaching into tight spots, and the locking feature is nice too. Can use them to pinch fuel lines off, hold valve stems outside the rim, start recessed or hard to access screws, to clamp stuff up out of your way, pick up the drain plug you just dropped in the oil drain pan.............

wow thanks, now i can start buying this stuff :)

Buy what these guys have suggested. If you have a small amount of mony left over, get some T handles. 8mm and 10 mm for sure. The set may also come with a 12mm. I use mine all the time and totally recommend them. Motion Pro sells the set for a reasonable price.

Dude, if you have a hammer and vise-grips, and just add duct tape, you can fix ANYTHING.

That's all I carry in my fanny pack . . . :p

Dental picks and a good magnet. Strong magnet turns most tools into a pickup tool. Picks are great for o-rings and things in grooves. Simple and cheap you will use them for ever. You can swipe the magnet out of an old speaker, now it's free. :clue:

If money is tight, get tools related to the most often maintenance items:

air filter cleaning
transmission oil changing
chain maintenance
cleaning
lubricating (oil, grease, etc.)
making sure fasteners are not loose (daily pre-ride inspection stuff)
