I see that the 400 has made a return. Could lessen demand for the 450 and let prices drop just a little. A good thing if you ask me!

My bet is the factory still has a huge stock of 250 rfs's that they can't move so they retro fitted the 400 components in to the 250 hopeing that will move them. If this is the case i'll bet the 400 dissapears again next year.

I own an 01 400. My friend who is an A class rider rode it and decided to buy one. At that time the 450 was out so he bought a 450. 4 months later he sold it and bought a 250 YZf. Too much power and it just did not handle like my 400. The 400 is more than enough for east coast- super tight and rocky conditions. Therfore I keep my 400!

Fred, we'll need a ride comparison ASAP! They're in at Lake Cycle as well, but I'm waiting for the real differences (AND Andy's college tuition bill) before I look further.

Yeah, FredT, let us know how it goes. I put my name down for an '04 525E when I was last at the dealer (OK, sorry two-stroke bretheren, it was an impulse!) but if those 04 two-strokes with the '03 SX derived engines provide a compelling business case, I may well change my order.

Lucky bastage!! I've got my eye on a new 300, I'm thinking I'll try an pick one up in September. Too many improvements over my '02 (IMO, at least) to not pass up.

Let us know how that new motor rips!

Currently on a 01 MXC 200, but really looking hard at these 250 EXC. Anyone rode one of those 04's yet! What about this 250exc racing. I was told it was a dog as 250 four strokes go. Any improvements over last year, or is it basically the same bike?

NO, I will pick it up this Wednesday and ride it next weekend. I have to set it up for me plus Al Randt wanted to ride it and figure out the jetting. I figure let the Guru have at it! It should rip when I get it. :yeehaw:

Fred, Don't you have 18mm offset triple clamps on your '03? Will your '04 have them or are you planning on using the stock ones?

Ben
I'm moving the 18 MM's to the '04 from the '03. That's part of the stuff I gotta do to the new one Wednesday night. I'm also going over the '03 and replacing some parts so it's in "ready to ride" form for it's new owner.

So what exactly is the EXC/MXC (2 stroke) motor supposed to do this year that it didn't last? I am in the middle of a major dilemna here, '04 300 EXC or '04 450 EXC. I understand that the KTM 4 strokes have changed very little, but should I be looking at the 300 or passing and staying with the 4 stroke?
Help me out here.

buddy of mine, a AA enduro/hs rider, called me on the way home from nashville with a report. he said that the '04 2-strokes are nice, but not that different in feeling from the '03's. he liked the integrated brake reservoir. he said that the 300, which may not have been jetted perfectly, had no more snap than my set-up '01. the 250, he said, felt quick but not that different from his '03 with doma pipe & shaved flywheel. he said that the new 2-strokes handle about like our older bikes with the 18mm triple clamps.

he went on to say that the 450exc was the standout of the group, with just about perfect power, and the handling was just as good. he rode the 525 & liked it also, but the extra power made it a little heavier-feeling in tight woods. he preferrd the exc gearbpoxes to the mxc's. he rode the 250 sx & thought it was awesome.

he says that his next bike will be a 450 exc.

After listening to what my brother Don had to say after he got back from the KTM dealer meeting/ride I went to the dealer where he works and bought there 1st 04 450 E/XC.
I rode it for about 20 minutes this evening and I realy like it, smooth power with plenty if you want and excelent handeling, it does everything great and should be a great harescramble bike for me.
