Checkers 2-Day ~ February 24th & 25th ~ North Anderson Dry Lake, Lucerne Valley

Who's going?

80-mile scramble on one course on Saturday (four 20 mile laps) and 80-mile scramble on a different course on Sunday (four 20 mile laps). They promise all single track and virgin trail on their flyer for both courses. I believe them.

The coolest thing about this race is that it's not a mass start. Racers will leave one-by-one, with their departure times logged and then their finish times logged. Riders' elapsed times will then be compared to generate final results. Awesome idea.

I'm planning on both - prolly book a room in Apple Valley for Saturday night.

Who's in?

Also, it's my understanding that anyone taking part in this event will automatically have preference for entry in the Checkers River Run, which may well happen next year or the year after.

Let's race!

Arrgh, I cant. I promised family that I will take them out for fun riding that weekend and no racing for me. I like the sound of that format tho. I may be out near El Mirage.

Each rider is responsible for starting on the correct race course and completing the correct number of laps for their class. The race ends when a rider has completed the distance required for his class or 4 hours after the last rider has left the start chute. Riders not completing the race distance for their class or finishing outside the time limit will be scored as a DNF.
The Bomb
There is no bomb.
The Start
The start of each race course will be in the approximate vicinity of the pits and will be sign posted.
The start is at 9:30 AM. One rider will leave every 15 seconds thereafter. The race starter will give you a 5 second count down, after which you can start you bike and proceed. It will be a dead engine start. Do not jump the start, riders jumping the start will be subject to a 10 second time penalty.
There will be a 50 ft long start chute marked at the start of each race course. Riders will form a single file line. The start order is first come first served. The starting line will continue out of the start chute in a single file. Riders must remain with their bikes at all times, unattended bikes, pit bikes, crates, girlfriends or other items used to mark or reserve a spot in the start line will be removed.
Semi Pros - The first 50 starting times will be reserved for Semi Pro Riders. Semi Pro riders will have their own start chute, starting order for Semi Pro riders will be decided by drawing a number from a hat during signup, lower numbers gaining preference over higher numbers. Semi Pros cannot elect to take a later start time. Semi Pros, please be at the line at 9:00 AM so we can organize you into your allocated start order.
Once inside the start chute, motors must be off, and riders are to push their bikes to the start position.
Tech inspection will be on the start line, green / red sticker plus spark arrestor required. Even race numbers will be sound tested. You must have official D37 race numbers. You must have your fender card face up on your front fender.
Checkpoints & Race Course Information
Racecourse Checkpoints - are flying checks – do not stop to have your fender card marked. There will be spotters on both loops, follow the ribbon, stay on the course, do not make us disqualify you.
Pink ribbon will used to mark the course on Saturday (Racecourses A&B)
Green Day-Glo ribbon will be used to mark the course on Sunday (Racecourses C&D)
Solid orange day glow cards indicate an obstacle and danger is ahead.
Cards with a red “X” indicates a road crossing.
Cards with a red down arrow means danger, drop off or steep descent.
The Finish
There will be several 50ft long finish chutes set up side by side at Home Check – the last check point at the end of the loop.
Riders must go though the finish chute at the end of each lap, your time will be scored as you enter the chute, you must stop at the end of the chute to have your fender card marked. Pick an empty chute, that way you don’t have to wait in line to have your fender card checked.
After you leave the chute, you will be in the pits, 15MPH maximum.
There will be a spot on your fender card to record each lap completed. Once your fender card is full, your race is over, please do not block the race course, pull off to the side to receive your finisher pin.
The host clubs time keeping and scoring is final.
The Pits
All riders will go through the pits at the end of each lap.
There will be a single pit for all race courses, same place for both days. It will be a two lane pit, one lane for each race course each day; each lane will be marked as part of the corresponding race course. Clubs with riders on both races course will need to mark two spots on pit row, normally these spots would be opposite each other. You must pit inside the designated area.
The maximum pit speed is 15 MPH and will be strictly enforced; you are still under the clock in the pits, however even minor speeding in the pits will result in a 10 second time penalty issued at the discretion of the race referee, or outright disqualification.
No passing another rider in the pits, do not make us disqualify you.
Semi Pro Race Scoring and Payment
This is a timed event, the Semi Pro race will be scored based on the lowest accumulated time over both days racing. In the incredibly unlikely event of a tie, a finish order will be determined for Saturday and Sunday, Sundays finish will break the tie. The Semi Pro Race will be scored within 48 Hours and payment will be made by check and mailed to the address given on your entry.
Other Information
If you breakdown, stay on the course with your bike. The sweep riders will be there to assist. If you need assistance, give your rider number to a passing rider. If you have given your number as needing assistance but are subsequently able to make it back to pits on your own, please check in with Rescue 3 or the race referee before you go home.
