I have a 97 cr 250 and I am wondering about cr 250 interchangability. Will 99 cr 250 forks fit? how about 00-01? or even 02-06? I know that from 97 on they have been showa 47mm twin chambers. Anybody Have any knowledge on this subject?

Forks from 97-02 at least are interchangeable for sure. It may even be as late as 05. I ran 00 forks on my 99. The valving got progressively better for the aluminum frame in later years. The early forks were brutal in stock form. Re-valving helps considerably.

I was pretty sure the 00-01 would work with the 97-99 bikes. I have chnged the fork oil on 98, 01, and 03 and they are all very similar. My 97 I have never changed the fork oil becuase the top of the forks are different than the 98-03. I sold my 03 cr (because I I bought it for $2500 and sold it for $3500) and I still have the 97 that I am putting a little money into until I can buy another 02-06 cr250. I am really considering having MX-tech do the revalve on my 97 but i am debating dropping $500-$700 into the suspension.

Externally they are the same from 97 to 05, the only difference being the length of the tubes for those that used a 20" wheel as an option. It has a slighly longer tube but still will work. The 06 is slightly different at the bottom I beleive but would still work. 125, 250, and 450 will interchange, even the Kayaba....

You may run into issues with the caliper not being able to mount on the new fork. I was unable to mount an '02 CR250 caliper on a set of '05 CRF450 forks.
Just an FYI

If I remember right, the length on the '97 is shorter than the '01 ( I had a set of "works" cartridges I wanted to use in my '01 ), in '05-06 the fork has the axel mounting position moved 2mm closer to the steering head ( equivellent to running 22mm offset clamps ) disk will interfer with caliper but can be made to fit. Offset does offer crisper turning. As far as different forks for 20" rim, I don't believe this is correct. Manual shows flush mount tube top for 20" rim and raised position for 21".

The axle spacing is different starting in 02. If putting 02 & newer on 97 to 01 you have to use the newer axle & spacer. They moved the lug closer to the center so they could make the axle shorter witch means a little less weight. The caliper mount spacing is different starting in 04. The bolts are closer together.

What was ment by the 20" front wheel comment, is that bikes for which it could have been an option (regardless of wether they actually had a 20 or 21" wheel) the forks were 7mm longer. This is to say, 01 forks are 7mm longer than 97' forks. With a 21" wheel one would normally run the forks with 7mm of upper tube protruding through the upper tripple clamp.
