fixing an exhaust leak on 02 yz 250f, need advice

my exhaust seems to be leaking on my bike right where it clamps to the head pipe at, how should i go about fixing this? there is some kind of black sticky crap there that came from the factory but isnt working anymore. can i just seal it up with high temp. silicone? or do i need something special.

Is this at the cylinder to head pipe connection or the head pipe to mid-pipe connection? Don't use silicone! Is your pipe damaged from a crash? More info please.

it is the headpipe to mid pipe connection. i think it is leaking because i have had the pipe on and off a few times in the past month. there looks like some kind of tacky material inside the midpipe where it slide onto the head pipe and it doesnt look like silicone, i think it came from the factory like that but not sure.

The sticky stuff is a crush gasket....if this is leaking I'd suggest to get a new one at a yamaha dealer, its only $5.
