Hey guys,

When I pull the clutch in - the noise goes away. Otherwise there is a knocking noise / clanging vibration.

I have the manual for my bike (repair) 2000 ktm250 exc and it has the diagrams.

I heard that you can file some notches or something? to make it go away? What does that mean, and what will that entail for me.

What is the procedure?

eg: 1. Warm engine
2. Drain gearbox oil
3. Take of clutch cover
4....
5...
6. ??

Also how bad is this if I just leave it like this? Will this ruin something?

Please reply with advice.

Thankyou in advance
Dmitri.

A lot of bikes make a different sound, almost like a knocking, when idling in neutral with the clutch lever out. My kTm did it, my YZ's did/do it. It's normal.

A notchy clutch basket will make the clutch engagement "grabby". It won't smoothly engage. Instead it will lurch out bit by bit due to grooves in the basket "fingers". The tabs on the plates can't slide smoothly over what was once a flat surface. They sort of jump from peak to peak of the now grooved surface. You can take the basket off, which is pretty straight forward, and file the ridges flat to extend the life of the basket a bit, but that is just a temporary fix for needing a new basket.
