Wedge a screw driver between the pads and the side opposite the piston.. then use it to drive the piston back into the caliper.

You just need to move it enough to separate the pads a bit.

Remember to pump your brakes when you get the wheel back on, or else you'll be in for a nasty surprise the first time you ride.

Is the reservoir full? If someone has added fluid do to the worn pads, there will be no room to open the caliper. You will need to take the cap off the reservoir and remove the excess fluid first. You should be able to squese the caliper shut with your fingers, especiaaly if you ride off road! If all else fails, and your girlfriend can not do it, a c-clamp works perfect!
