Fork Fluid Levels

I just got my first bike ('00 KDX 200) and want to be sure the fluid levels in my forks are at the proper levels. How can I check the level of fluid in my forks, and how much I need to add? PS I don't have the standard KDX forks, it has been changed out with KX forks.
