I do believe that when I met up with the crew at a Beaumont ride last spring, I did promise that when the weather was to cool down, I would volunteer to lead a ride in the desert.

We have had some decent rain and temps have been great so if anyone would like, I will show you our super private 50 mile loop leaving from the east side of the Coachella Valley and heading up to the rest stop at Chiaco summit and back again.

Let me know if there's an interest.

If you don't mind a couple NorCal boys showing up. My buddy and our girlfriends are going to be there next weekend and would love to ride. I just need to figure out how to get the bikes down there.

It's a open invitation so any one is welcome. You should be able to go at least 50 miles on a tank and it does have about 30% technical single track so it is not a pure beginner ride but most novices will make it.

We can extend the loop and go all the way to Chiraco summit, get gas, eat and come back which extends the loop to 80 miles but it is power line roads to the summit. Or I know some excellent Mexican places in Indio for the post ride debriefing.

Sunday works for me. How about everyone else?

Phast.

I would love to check out your area, but I have some friends coming into town between the 15th and the 20th. A couple of them would probably not like the single track. They want to to to Ocotillo and I am not sure of the exact dates yet.

Should know by the end of next week. :thumb:

Are you running the loop on Saturday AND Sunday??

Also, what kind of pace are you running? I have a son on a KX 100 that does pretty good, but he is not blistering fast.

What is the elevation? looks like sea-level to 1600

Also, when a day is concrete, would need directions to meeting place or staging area.

Well so far it seems Sunday is the day of choice. What do you say 9AM? If you all want to vote you can, or just assign it to your king to make the choice. Just who is your king anyway? (I can't wait to find out!)

To get to the staging area, take I-10 out through Palm Springs and to the east end of the valley. The last exit before you start up the grade is Dillion Road. You will pass Spotlight 29 Casinoon the right and the exit is just past. Go left on Dillion and go about 1 mile, up and over the dike. You will see some large steel power poles crossing the road. Take the dirt power line road right and go about 400 yards. We stage under that pole. I have a gold F-150 and a "never seen the backside of a blue bike" KTM 520. My roost zone is 50' so beware. (OSHA requires me to warn you in advance) My cell phone is 760-275-7812 and my earth name is Gregg.

At the exit there is a T&R truck stop. I'll be out there at 8 or so so I can fill up on fat laden foods, so as to give the blue bikes a better chance of keeping me in sight. It's only fair.

As far as pace goes, you can tell me better. I like to ride quick but this is a trail ride and we should have ample opportunity to gang back up. The loop is an honest 48 miles with some deep sand washes so make sure you got gas. No sweep riders on this tour.

If Elk can't make it Sun, I could be convinced to do a short ride on Saturday closer to town.

Guess I should go out to the garage and put my bike back together. Nah, I think I'll wait till Saturday night and make this interesting.

Hey, we use to do a little desert racing out there in the late 60's early 70's , somewhere out to the north of where you're talking is a place called the iron door,it's an old Gen Patton munitons storage cave or something.

Isn't the iron door place out in Ocotillo? Anyway, Sunday is fine, doesn't matter I guess, traffic just sucks on the way back. I'll plan on Sunday then and watch the posts. First ride on the WR, be easy with me!!:)

there might be one in Ocotillo, but there is definitly one out by where he's talking, I've been in it, I also remember a cool little canyon not to far from it and a gravel plant not to far west of that, I haven't been out there since 72'

This should be fun

This is 103 miles from my house, alrighty then, leave one hour prior to ride, good enough.;) 47 mile loop, so a filled tank on the WR will make it, no? How hot is it going to be, dual camel backs or what?! This will be a fun ride, never been out there before, thanks Phart.:yeehaw:

If you drive like you ride you should leave 2 hours early :moon:

47 miles = half tank

JP, the iron door is just on the other side of Dillon Road where we stage. I'll take you over and show it to you. It's a foot deep in trash from the party animals but still there.

The loop is a lot of fun. Parts of it were getting a little hammered so we went out in October and laid out a bunch of fresh trail. Still in great shape.

Did I mention about having to ride the first mile blindfolded? Other than that you'll love it.
