Eric or Rich, have you come across a RMZ or KXF 250 making a knocking noise that sounds like it was definitely coming from the top end, but when you take it apart, everything checks out within spec.
Cylinder head removed- taken apart, cams and journals are fine and within spec. valve adjustment OK, springs, etc. OK
Piston- OD is within spec, ring groove clearance within spec,
there is carbon on top all over the crown.
Crank- rod side clearance not beyond service limit. Did not check main bearings yet
Decompressor spring works-lose tension? no checking prcedure in shop manual
Bike is 2005, 4-5 months old, ridden 3-5 times a month, novice level rider.
