switch from a kx250 to a 250f?

I currently have an 04' KX250 that I've had for about a year (my first bike) and I just trail ride around the desert (sandy); but now I want to race but I herd that I won't learn some skills on a 250 that I would learn on a 125 class bike. but if I do get the 250F I will only race like two maybe three times a month so will I get bord with the power in the desert scince I'm used to the 250's power. so should i get a 450? or is that too much to handle on the track? or will I be just fine racing the KX250? two smoke thumper, does not matter to me I like them equal.

I think you'd get really bored with the 250f in the dez. I'd stick with the 250 you've got now.

Are you planning to race motocross or desert races? If its motocross, then it might make a little more sense to start out in the smaller class, but if you're just planning to dabble in a couple offroad races for fun, I think your best off keeping your kx250.
