A friend of mine is looking for a CR250 in the $1500-$2000 range. This will probably put him somewhere in the early 90's or older.

Are all of the early 90's 250's basically the same or is there a year that Honda made significant improvements.

Are there any years in that range that he should avoid?

Thanks in advance,
Pete

My husband's bike is a 1990 CR250. It's still a good bike. He says Honda changed the engine the year after that, and then the suspension around 1994.

Thanks MaryLiz.

Does anybody know the exact year the suspension changed or if there are any other significant changes?

You can get yourself a late 90's CR250 with $2000. I paid $2950 cdn($1850 us) for my 96'CR250 one year ago. If you look hard you can find a good deal. The 96' CR is one of the better years for the CR250 too, it has a great motor(power) but the suspension is'nt that great. Still a great bike though.:)

The best Cr250 made in the 90's was 93-94. McGrath ran a 93 frame with 94 motor from 1994 - 1996, if that tells you anything. Try and stay away from the 92 Cr250. They have a lot of problems with oil flow in the crankcase and I believe the forks in 93 were recalled. I have a 94 Cr250 and I can outrun my friend 1999 YZ250 all day long.

My friend has a 93 CR250. It has been a really good bike. Very little maintenance. He had the suspension worked on and it made it ride better. He put a different pipe on it and it cut down on the abrupt power hit in the upper mid range. Everyone that rides it, likes it. I had to buy an 01 YZ 250 to keep up w/him:eek:

pw455.

I have a 91 CR 250 for sale. It has been completly rebuilt, frame up.

Has, Race Tech, Gold Valve suspension, front and rear. Skid plate, pipe guard, Acerbis hand guards, Disc guard, Renthal bars, Scotts steering damper mount, (no damper), extra plastic. Engine has about 5 rides on rebuild. All new seals, etc.

Will sell for $1,900. Bought a WR400. Don't need the CR anymore.

PM me if you are interested.
