O.K. here is the idiot question for the day.

I'm in the middle of a teardown of my XR400.

I got both the upper and lower gasket sets from Honda. IN the upper set there are three metal head gaskets and one fiber one.

The bike comes stock with only a fiber one installed, so what purpose do the metal ones serve?

Anyone?

the fiber one is the cylinder base gasket, it goes b/t the cylinder and the cases. The tho metal ones are for the head to cylinder gasket and the cylinder to rocker box cover gasket. look close, if you didn't see them upon dissasembly then they are probibly still stuck to the respective parts.
Great bike, while you've got it down why not opt for the thumper 440 kit. oh my goodness what a difference.:)
